Bachelor's Theses
As part of their bachelor's degree examination, students in the Faculty of Economics are required to write a bachelor's thesis. Below you will find information on the registration procedure.
Central application procedure
To ensure that all students enrolled in the Bachelor's programme in Economics are assigned a topic for their Bachelor's thesis, there is a central application process for Bachelor's theses, which is coordinated by the Dean's Office.
The allocation process takes place at the beginning of each year and applies to the respective summer and winter semesters.
Acceptance at our institute for a bachelor's thesis
If you have been assigned to our institute as part of the central application process, you will receive a list of topics by email.
Below, you will find a web form where you can enter your topic preferences. You can also submit your own topic suggestions here. Please also indicate your desired registration date for your bachelor's thesis in the form. Possible registration dates are:
We will inform you of the start date for registering your bachelor's thesis on 23 February 2026. One week before the start date, you will be informed of the topic and the name of your thesis supervisor.
Topics
In your bachelor's thesis, you should demonstrate that you are able to systematically and appropriately determine the tax consequences resulting from economic decisions and scientifically derive the effects of taxation on decision-making. Our theses can be distinguished methodologically as follows:
1. Empirical theses
In empirical theses, you use appropriate statistical methods to examine tax-economic issues based on archive (databases), survey or experimental data.
2. Analytical theses
In analytical theses, you examine tax-related economic issues using model-theoretical concepts.
3. Tax law or normative theses
In tax law theses, you analyse tax issues using legal sources (legal texts, judgements, etc.) and quantify the tax burden of alternative courses of action.
Master's Theses
If you would like to register your Master's thesis at the Institute for Business Taxation in the calendar year 2026, please send Prof. Dr. Blaufus a short email by 16 February 2026 at the latest, stating your desired registration date and, if applicable, a suggested topic for your Master's thesis.
